My story
After many months of mahi on 1 November 1996 Te Puke Karanga was officially given its first contract signed on 1 November 1996 at Paraweka Marae in Pipiriki, Whanganui Awa. I am currently employed by Te Puke Karanga Hauora, having initially taken up the challenge with limited knowledge and experience. Since the Health clinic’s inception in 1996 I have accepted all opportunities to learn whenever I could and grew quickly into the position, whilst at the same time structuring the clinic and designing/implementing all policies, procedures, and IT systems for the then emerging organisation. During this time, I have built and maintained intersectional relationships with key providers /organisations that have a strong focus in the health arena.
Since those early days I have continued to maintain and develop the Health Clinic into a professional and popular facility by providing increasing services and education programmes to our clients. This was recognised in 1998 by the health funding authority when we were awarded Best provider of the Rural services (population under 1000) in the Te Roopu Awhina Awards. I have proven myself to an effective, professional Manager, with excellent ability to initiate, development successfully co-ordinate Hauora Services within the rural domain and presently preparing TPKH it’s 4th Accreditation through Health care Aotearoa – Te Wana Quality standards.
My past and present work experience has allowed me to focus strongly on people and interpersonal skills. A diverse range of experiences has meant my communication skills have been tested with many different people and groups. Also, because of my work history I have become confident dealing with people in a wide range of circumstances. I use listening skills effectively to develop an understanding of people’s needs, identifying conflict situations and taking action to achieve win-win resolutions. I am able to think beyond the square (lateral thinker) and I am continually looking for innovative ideas to improve or enhance a situation.
This work environment has conditioned me to working confidently and efficiently with minimum of supervision. My industrious and high self-motivating nature works well when learning new skills and overcoming problems. I have highly effective time management and planning skills and can work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
I love working for our people & thank the board for their continued support for me & our staff of Te Puke Karanga Hauora. We work for our communities & will continue to get the best health outcomes for them.
